Explore the rope wall in the tradition of Yoga Kurunta, using ropes to support, traction, and deepen classical Iyengar asanas. Rope work helps create space in the joints, cultivate strength and stability, and offer new perspectives on familiar poses.

Open to all levels; no prior rope experience is needed.

This four-week series is a comprehensive introduction to Iyengar Yoga, designed specifically for beginners.

You’ll be guided step by step through the foundations of a precision-based practice, with clear instruction in alignment, breath awareness, and safe, sustainable movement. Each week builds progressively, giving you time to learn, feel, and understand the work in your body.


Weekly focus:
Week 1: Standing pose foundations
Week 2: Building strength and stability
Week 3: Seated poses and flexibility
Week 4: Integration and establishing your complete practice


What makes this series distinctive is the methodical use of props (blocks, straps, bolsters, chairs), longer holds that cultivate awareness, and detailed alignment instruction to support both safety and effectiveness.


This series is ideal for:
Beginners, students with injuries or physical limitations, those returning to yoga, and anyone seeking a thoughtful, therapeutic, and structured approach.


All props are provided. Maximum of 8 students to ensure individualized attention.
The series includes take-home materials and guidance on how to continue your practice with confidence.

Theme:

Each session explores one of the three Sutras on asana, focusing on steadiness, ease, and balance:

  • Sthira Sukham Asanam – Steadiness and ease in posture

  • Prayatna Shaithilya Ananta Samapattibhyam – Relaxation of effort and meditation on the infinite

  • Tato Dvandva Anabhighatah – From that, one is not disturbed by the pairs of opposites

Milestone Access:

  • 750-class milestone: attend the full weekend free

  • 500-class milestone: attend two sessions free

  • 100 and 250-class milestone: attend one session free

We’re honored to welcome Pranati Pratap, senior teacher from Pune, India, for another six-week online series.

From Pranati:
Simple and accessible asanas are the best gateway to understanding how the breath works in asanas and pranayama. Different poses allow us to observe the breath from multiple angles and reveal the wide-ranging potential of breath in yoga.

In this 6-week series (Thursdays, Jan 15–Feb 19, 8–9:15 AM), Pranati will teach from her home in India, and Iyengar Yoga Source will live-stream the classes. Students can attend in the studio using props or join from home, exploring standing, twisting, and seated poses to deepen awareness of the connection between body, breath, and mind.

Ability is not a concern — the focus is on learning, observing, and experiencing. Can’t attend live? Recordings will be available for 7 days, so you can repeat the practice or catch up at your own pace.

About Pranati Pratap

Pranati has been a student of Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Institute for over forty years and studied with BKS and Geetaji Iyengar, and continues to study with Prashanji Iyengar.

She lived and taught in NJ and the tri-state area for 22 years and was one of the teachers at Studio Yoga for more than four years. In her workshops, she inspires students to learn from their own embodyment and explore their own self on the planes of body, mind, and breath. In this workshop, we will learn how to use the simple props more creatively to address our specific needs and evolve in our practice.

Artful Rest: Integrating Restorative Yoga and Expressive Art

In collaboration with IYS community member Emily Natale, we present you with the opportunity to practice a 30-minute restorative session with Kathleen, followed by an expressive art experience with Emily. See our webpage here.

In the expressive art experience portion, you'll delve into creating art for your mind, body, and spirit. Creating art in this way is intuitive and allows your inner intelligence to express itself in colorful ways. You will get to experience and learn two methods that allow art to serve as a communicator for the mind-body connection. Making art can reduce stress and foster your wellbeing. If you can draw a stick figure, then you can create expressive art.

This event is the first in a series of collaborations designed to provide you with opportunities to experience how yoga can enhance other activities in your life.

Maximum of 12 participants.
